Product Development Mechanical Engineer

Microdermics is a Vancouver based company aiming to revolutionize the current drug delivery methods by commercializing novel and innovative intradermal injection platform.

Job summary

If you are an enthusiastic product development engineer able to work in a fast-paced environment, we need you to help us design and develop cutting-edge products addressing the challenges of drug delivery in healthcare.

In this position, you will apply your broad engineering knowledge to help lead the design of new products and product enhancements, and support generation of new intellectual property. You will be following the design control process and engage in all activities of product development including: research, concept generation, concept development, prototyping, human factor evaluation, testing, production engineering and DFMA. In addition, you will be working and interacting with the entire community of ventures in the Hatch Incubator and Creative Destruction Labs ecosystems to build a massive and impactful business.

You will also be responsible for

  • Using rapid prototyping and machining tools to create prototypes and test concepts Supporting preclinical and clinical studies to validate design concepts and prototypes
  • Working with outside industrial designers, vendors, and manufacturing partners to support development of devices
  • Working with customers to develop products addressing client needs
  • Supporting opportunity assessments to select the most clinically valuable future development programs
  • Facilitating human factor studies, and conducting formal risk analysis
  • Generating technical portions of regulatory submissions


Required Skills and Qualifications

Hands-on experience in precision assembly and rapid prototyping

  • Hands-on experience in precision assembly and rapid prototyping
  • 5 years of experience in product development
  • Experience in plastic parts assembly design and manufacture
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly
  • Experience in 3D CAD
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, engineering physics, or similar

Asset qualifications

  • Experience in industrial design for medical devices
  • Experience in product usability assessment and human factor studies
  • Experience in designing and developing small precision mechanisms involving spring loaded components
  • Experience in medical device development and manufacture in ISO 13485/ FDA QSR environment
  • Experience in conducting Hazard Analysis

  • 65k-90k, depending on experience leve
  • Option grants, conditional on board approval
