Senior R&D Engineer

Microdermics is a Vancouver-based company aiming to revolutionize the biosensing market by commercializing a novel microsensor platform for a drastically improved user experience.

Job summary

If you are an enthusiastic R&D development engineer able to work in a fast-paced environment, we need you to help us design and develop cutting-edge products addressing the challenges of biosensing in healthcare. 

In this position, you will apply your engineering knowledge to help develop electrochemical biosensors for use in our proprietary microneedle-based microsensor platform, while also following the design control process and engaging in all activities of product development, as needed.

responsibIlITIES

  • Design and develop electrochemical microsensors to support technology platform

  • Conduct bench-top and in vivo tests to characterize sensor performance

  • Conduct research to refine sensing formulations

  • Evaluate and improve the biocompatibility of the sensor in cooperation with external test labs

  • Manufacture reliable sensors in cooperation with internal and external resources

  • Work with a mechanical engineer to integrate sensor with the mechanical features of the device

  • Lead the sensor calibration process development together with the manufacturing partner and a software developer

  • Work with a data scientist to analyze data

  • Participate in IP drafting

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Expertise in electrochemical sensing, formulation preparation and coating processes

  • Masters, PhD and/or equivalent demonstrated experience

  • Very strong precision hands-on skill

  • Very strong analytical skills

  • Experience in medical devices and/or regulated design processes

  • Willing to tackle new challenges and learn new concepts quickly

  • Able to work independently and under strict deadlines

Asset qualifications

  • Experience in medical devices design and development

  • Experience in product usability assessment and human factor studies

  • Experience in designing and developing small precision mechanisms involving spring loaded components

  • Experience in medical device development and manufacture in ISO 13485/ FDA QSR environment

 

Job Type
